Hello colleagues,
I have discovered there is a growing recognition for HSE in SPE. Health, Safety and Environment is key to all activities carried out in the Oil and Gas industry. It does not matter your background, in as much you are an Oil and Gas Professional, you can contribute to the development of HSE.
SPEI created a special HSE conference to bring together the HSE discussions. In most SPE events, I have discovered that there is still a dearth of HSE technical papers. Since we want a profitable industry devoid of incidents, then HSE should be given the right publicity and allow our professionals to be involved in HSE activities at their place of work.
Gaining the right competencies comes in different ways. Merely participating the HSE activities in your projects could give you an insight. Risk Assessment, HSE tours, Permit to work, HSE targets etc are all easy tools that oil and gas professionals could participate at their place of work. There is no job that does not have an HSE input. We should not leave this to the HSE officer alone. Our input as Oil and Gas Professionals is to do our job professionally - Increase output, ensure people are safe, not compromise the environmental standards, ensure quality equipment and materials and most importantly make profit!
