Hello fellow Port Harcourt Section, SPE members and other collaborators around the world.

The year 2019 is leaving us for good but the memories we built together transcends into the annals of history.

In the last phase of the 2018/19 board year, we made sure that the bond of handover to the 2019/20 board was targeted. We recognized our successes and learnt lessons from our weaknesses. Key cornerstones for the new board year were: Effective collaboration, Attention to Membership, innovating SPE values to our members, improving the SPE cares culture and participatory students and YPs events. At the end of 2019, I am bold in saying that we have made lots of progress in the targeted missions.

Precisely, we have grown our membership in Section 103 - Port Harcourt and following-up on retaining our members. The board’s support for students and YP activities had increased exponentially: fairs, energy4me, ambassadorial lectures programs, and SPE cares. There is now interaction and quality in the events that we plan and execute. We also ensured that the publications of these events (before and after) have had a wide coverage in social media, press, publications, blogs and others. Our collaborations have been successful with the SDG2030 (UNICEF and FOB), Power2Power (DorisDesmond), Award nights (Environmental Societies), Annual Technical Symposium (SPENC) and others too numerous to mention.

As we delve into year 2020 from tomorrow, we are very optimistic to several programs already earmarked: the SPE S103 Charity Golf Tournament; Women's Development Programs; the Science and Engineering fair (STEM), Young Professionals workshop, Students diverse activities especially leading to ATCE and NAICE programs in year 2020; the Annual Technical Symposium and Annual General meeting; Distinguished lecturer Programs and other programs leading to an anticipated handover to a new board in September 2020.

Of course, we need to be mindful to volunteer and participate at other SPE events in NAICE 2020 at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, Nigeria and also at the ATCE 2020 at Denver, Colorado, USA. Involvements with other SPE sections will also be an area of focus and support to sister organizations. As an SPE member, we need to pay our dues, volunteer in events and participate actively by sharing experiences and learning from our professions.

Cheers to a successful year 2019 and upcoming SPE year 2020. Our belief for volunteerism is rooted in the vision and missions of SPE. We are delighted for all those that have participated and supported the SPE S103 Port Harcourt programs in 2019 especially to all volunteers, leadership of SPE, sponsors and collaborators. Let's do more in 2020!!!!

Plus est en vous!!!!

Yours in SPE service,

Adebola BADA

Thanks Adebola.  I enjoyed reading your end-of-year message partly because I still recall with nostalgia SPE Port Harcourt's contributions to my professional development as an engineer with SPDC Port Harcourt some years ago.  Well done for your service to SPE.  Looking forward to attending one of the SPE functions in Port Harcourt someday.
